The Story of Grace Church

1983 — The Lord spoke to Pastors Steve and Becky Riggle to leave their pastoral assignment in Livermore, CA and start a non denominational new church in the Houston area.  The leadership team of Grace International prayed for and released Steve and Becky to begin Grace Church Houston.

Grace Church, then known as Grace Community Church, was launched with a group of 12 people at Clear Lake Intermediate School in Houston, TX.  Four weeks later, God provided Grace’s first building in Webster, TX.  98 people were part of the first Sunday in that location as Grace continued to grow.

After growing quickly, we moved to a new home in the heart of League City.  The building was in bad disrepair and volunteer teams worked Sunday afternoons for weeks to clean and repair our new home. Before moving, we grew to 3 Sunday services with hundreds of people worshipping at Grace.

Grace purchased property and built a landmark church building at the entrance to Clear Lake City.  While there Grace continued to grow and we added a daycare and K-12 Clear Lake Christian School along with many other ministries.  Prayer became a centerpiece of the week at Grace as we launched the midweek prayer meeting.

With a clear direction from God, we purchased 86 acres on I-45 at Dixie Farm road to build a new church home. We occupied part of the building as we completed the main auditorium.

Grace celebrated the grand opening of our new 10,000 seat auditorium along with launching a Spanish speaking service and expanding to begin a new church campus in the Woodlands, TX.

As Grace Church Houston grew, we took on a new challenge of adopting two church campuses in the San Diego area with the goal of making each one its own thriving church.

After serving Grace for 20 years in various roles, Garrett and Andrea Booth became the pastors of Grace Church Houston.   Steve and Becky Riggle transitioned to the role of founding pastors along with pastoring Grace Woodlands and leading Grace International, a world-wide fellowship of churches and ministries.

As one of the biggest mega churches in Houston, Grace Church Houston continues to reach people for Christ.  New services have been added to accommodate growth.  More than 100 ministries touch people’s lives everyday.  Easter Sunday saw a record attendance of 12,000+.  Grace teams serve regularly in the heart of Houston, reaching to the under-resourced with hope and help.  We support ministries in 90 nations of the world.  Grace continues to serve God, serve our city and make a difference around the globe . . . and the best is yet to come.
